Winter Glow-Up: Skincare Tips to Keep Your Skin Radiant in Cold Weather

As the days get colder, do you feel your skin becoming tight, dull, or even flaky? Winter weather can be harsh, but with the right skincare for cold weather, you don’t have to settle for dry, lacklustre skin. With a few gentle changes, it’s possible to keep that glow even through the chilliest months. Here’s how I’ve managed to keep my skin feeling healthy and radiant all winter long.

Why Does Winter Affect Our Skin So Much? Cold air holds less moisture, which means the humidity levels drop, both outdoors and indoors. When the air is dry, it pulls moisture from your skin, leaving it dehydrated. Add central heating into the mix, and suddenly your skin’s natural barrier is compromised. But with the right skincare for cold weather, nourishing your skin during winter is easier than you think!

1. Double Down on Moisture

Is your current moisturiser leaving your skin wanting more? In winter, it’s essential to use a richer, more hydrating product. Look for creams with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, ceramides, or glycerin—these ingredients work to seal in moisture, keeping your skin feeling soft and supple all day.

Example: Try applying a lightweight hydrating serum first, followed by a thicker cream. The serum helps draw moisture into your skin, while the cream locks it in. It’s like adding a cosy blanket over your favourite sweater—extra protection for those cold days!

2. Exfoliate, but Gently

Have you noticed that your skin looks duller in winter? That’s often due to a build-up of dry, dead skin cells. Gentle exfoliation once or twice a week will remove this layer, helping your moisturiser absorb better and revealing brighter, fresher skin underneath. But avoid overdoing it—excessive exfoliation can make dryness worse.

Tip: Use a mild chemical exfoliant with lactic acid or an enzyme-based exfoliant to help brighten and smooth skin without irritation.

3. Add a Boost with Facial Oils

Are facial oils part of your winter routine? If not, they should be! Oils are fantastic for winter skin because they provide an extra layer of hydration and lock in the moisture from your serums and creams. Plus, oils rich in antioxidants can protect against the oxidative stress caused by cold weather and pollution.

Think of oils as the final step in a winter skincare ritual. A few drops of rosehip or argan oil pressed into your skin can make it look instantly nourished and radiant.

4. Don’t Skip the SPF

Did you know winter sun can still damage your skin? Even on cloudy days, UV rays penetrate through, causing long-term damage. Protecting your skin with an SPF of at least 30 will prevent premature ageing and keep your skin healthy all year.

Evidence: Studies have shown that consistent sunscreen use reduces signs of ageing by up to 24%. So even if you’re not lounging in the summer sun, keep that SPF in your winter routine.

5. Hydrate from the Inside Out

Do you find yourself drinking less water in winter? It’s a common habit when it’s cold outside, but hydration is essential for keeping your skin healthy. Try herbal teas, or add a squeeze of lemon to warm water for a refreshing drink. Your skin (and your energy) will thank you.

These winter skincare tips are simple yet transformative, keeping your skin glowing, healthy, and hydrated even in the chilliest weather. Now, all that’s left is to enjoy the season with confidence and radiance!

Nourishing Home Remedies for Winter-Ready Skin

Here are some simple and effective home remedies that can help keep your skin hydrated and glowing during winter:

  1. Honey and Yogurt Mask: Mix a tablespoon of honey with two tablespoons of yogurt and apply to your face for 10-15 minutes. This mask helps to lock in moisture and soothe dry, irritated skin.

  2. Avocado and Olive Oil Moisturiser: Mash half an avocado and mix with a teaspoon of olive oil. Apply to dry areas of your face and leave on for 10-20 minutes before rinsing. This natural remedy is rich in healthy fats and deeply nourishes the skin.

  3. Oatmeal Bath Soak: Add a cup of ground oats to your warm bath. Oatmeal is naturally soothing and helps relieve itchy, dry skin by forming a protective barrier that locks in moisture.

  4. Aloe Vera Gel: Aloe vera is fantastic for calming and hydrating the skin. Apply a thin layer of pure aloe vera gel directly onto dry areas for a quick boost of moisture.

  5. Coconut Oil Overnight Treatment: Apply a thin layer of coconut oil to your skin before bed, focusing on dry patches. It works as an intense moisturiser that you can leave on overnight for softer skin by morning.

These easy, natural remedies can be incorporated into your routine to give your skin the extra care it needs during the colder months.
